Brief negotiations update

The latest from the bargaining table: after months of posturing, the District has presented a contract proposal calling for a rollback of wages, benefits, reemployment, and other rights. Rationales for these changes remain unsubstantiated, to say the least. We will have a more detailed presentation of their regressive proposal and AFT’s response available soon. We continue to call on the District to provide real numbers and the information needed to engage substantially in the collective bargaining process.

Meanwhile, with the District’s denial of AFT’s grievance challenging the unilateral wage cut effective January 2, 2013, the Union has submitted the grievance to binding arbitration. In conjunction with this challenge, we have filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with PERB.

Last night, several hundred students, community supporters, faculty, and staff turned out to the Save CCSF Coalition meeting at Mission campus. It looks like our “March in March” will be in San Francisco this year with a March 14th mobilization at City Hall, 4:00-6:00 pm.

The Board of Trustees will meet this evening, Thursday, Feb. 7th in MUB 140 at an EARLIER-than-usual time — 5:00 pm. The primary subject of the meeting is discussion of the first draft of the Show Cause Report to ACCJC. Access the meeting agenda here.

AFT 2121 is also calling a press conference and rally at the Thursday, February 28 Board of Trustees meeting, when the Board will review the revised draft of the Show Cause Report. We must stand up to the proposed plan for Prop A funds, a betrayal of the will of SF voters who passed the measure by 73%, and against the outsized downsizing of the College and the education of San Franciscans as a whole and against the unprecedented attempt to gut our faculty contract.

Organize–we must! Get involved in your Union’s efforts to Save Our City College and protect our contract, working conditions, and quality public education at CCSF. Come to our next Member Organizing Committee meeting and training on Tuesday, February 12th, 3:00-5:00 pm, MUB 251.This growing team is reaching out to every union member on each campus. We are the Union, and in Unity there is Strength.
