Erroneous benefits cancellations

On Friday August 30, an as-of-yet unknown number of PT faculty received notices that their benefits would be canceled effective September 1. The notices, dated August 29, 2013, inform the faculty member that health, dental and vision benefits will be canceled because of assignments below 50% load. We know some of these faculty are working more than 50% and are, in fact, eligible.

We are furious—we should all be furious—that these notices were sent out at such a late date, to be received by faculty on the holiday weekend stating that benefits will be canceled during this weekend.

If you have erroneously received a Benefits In-Eligibility Notice, let us know right away by email at aft@aft2121.org (put “Benefits Cancellation Notice” in the subject line) so that we can ensure this problem is corrected. Please also be sure to contact Human Resources per the directions in the notice.
