FRIDAY: TELL THE ACCJC TO TREAT OUR COLLEGES FAIRLY!

While the ACCJC was sanctioning the public California Community Colleges at the highest rates of any regional accreditor in the nation, it was also turning a blind eye to the “for-profit” Corinthian/Heald College and its problems. The result of this inconsistent and disparate treatment has been a disaster for students and their schools. Legislation authored by Assemblymember Phil Ting will reform ACCJC accreditation practices, providing greater transparency for the rogue agency’s actions and preventing it from billing community colleges (and taxpayers) for its soaring legal costs. You can help let the ACCJC know that they need to treat all of our colleges fairly.  Join state legislators, CFT, students from Corinthian/Heald College, and students from the California Community Colleges calling for accreditation reform in California. Please invite your friends on Facebook and come out to join us this Friday, June 5th at 1pm and meet in front of the Hilton Oakland Airport Hotel for a protest and press conference. Contact CFT Organizer Erin Conley (ebconley@gmail or 620-757-5950) for more information.

THE FIGHT CONTINUES: FAIR CONTRACT NOW!

This past semester AFT 2121 began to organize members around our contract fight. However a much broader campaign is needed. Our unions’ commitment is to engage our members in one-on-one conversations over the summer about what possible job actions may be needed to get the District to seriously negotiate over the critical issues. This summer please come to the AFT 2121 office (311 Miramar Ave. @ Ocean) to join our two Contract Action Team (CAT) strategic planning sessions on Wednesday, June 24th from 4-6pm and Wednesday, July 22nd from 4-6pm.

Our CAT team will continue supporting the efforts of our Bargaining Team by building power outside of the negotiations room. CAT will develop and plan actions at our campuses, on our streets, and in our classrooms, counseling offices and libraries. Will you commit to the fight for a winning a fair contract?
