Negotiations: District “clarifies” its salary offer as Mediation continues

The District just issued a “clarification” of its Feb. 3 communication about their salary offer after AFT challenged their salary offer “facts.”

Instead of the 13.79% over three years full-time salary offer that they claimed last week. the District acknowledges that they are offering a 5.82% salary increase over three years plus 2.17% off-schedule bonuses in each year.
.
For part-timers, instead of the 11.17% over three years that they claimed to be offering last week, they now acknowledge that their proposal calls only for the COLA (about 2.5% over three years) plus a bonus in each year (they say 2.33% although their actual proposal states 2.9%?!). Review more details on their offer.
The District and Union return to mediation tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 10. following the Jan. 29 impasse declaration by PERB. We hope the District’s “clarification” of their much lower salary offer leads to an actual salary offer that meets faculty needs.

Delegation to 2016 CFT Convention

Congratulations to the  AFT 2121 faculty who will represent AFT 2121 at the 2016 CFT Convention in San Francisco, March 11 – 13. Because we had fewer candidates than seats, a secret ballot was not required and our Delegate Assembly elected all candidates by acclamation. The annual CFT Convention is a great opportunity to learn about education and labor issues throughout the state and gain greater understanding of how City College and our union fit within the larger dialogue. You can help keep our Union strong: Volunteer!

Our union is only as strong as member participation. Right now there are two big areas to focus on:

1) The Friedrichs vs. California Teachers Association case in front of the Supreme Court now could make dues optional for all public employees even though they would still reap the benefits of union representation. Currently, 81% of faculty at CCSF are union members. Most CCSF fee-payers simply do not know they are not full members. Last week our AFT 2121 Delegate Assembly set an organizing goal of reaching 90% membership by the end of this semester. You can help by checking with your colleagues to make sure they have filled out a membership form and sharing this cute video explaining “Fair Share.”

2) Help us enter the data we collected last semester through our organizing efforts into our database. By keeping track of our supporters among San Franciscans we can continue to engage them in important issues facing the college, such as proposed downsizing and our struggle for a fair contract. Whenever you are free to help out during regular business hours you can help us enter data, just call beforehand (415-585-2121) to make sure there is a list on hand for you to enter.
