This Monday, November 14 through Saturday, November 19: Dues increase vote

During the fight to protect our college over the last few years AFT 2121 reserves have diminished dramatically. AFT National and CFT Statewide have been increasing their fees, and we have not passed on those increases to our faculty since 2011. At the same time, our Local has invested its limited resources in a high level of organizing in support of the successful contract campaign, the battle against the ACCJC, and to save our college. Last month our rank-and-file leaders voted to approve bringing a dues increase from 1.26% to 1.5% to a vote of the membership. Voting will start on Monday, November 14 and go until Saturday, November 19. We will send out a full list of voting times and locations by Sunday, November 20.

This Tuesday, November 15: Stand with Standing Rock: Stop DAPL!

The $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline, if completed, would move 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day, deepening already catastrophic climate change and threatening the water supply and sacred sites of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Thousands of water protectors, including members of over 200 tribes, have camped at the site for months to prevent DAPL, facing arrests, pepper spray, rubber bullets and attack dogs. You can stand with them and get involved!

Tuesday, November 15th
6:30AM – 12PM
Civic Ctr Plaza
to Army Corps of Engineers
1455 Market St., SF

When water is threatened, sacred sites desecrated, rubber bullets, tasers, bean bags, and pepper spray fired, treaties and human rights violated, protectors jailed, media blocked, it is time we stand together in the Bay Area in solidarity with the peoples of Standing Rock Sioux Reservation against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Join the sunrise ceremony led by the indigenous community. Then march to demand the US Army Corps of Engineers deny the permit to bore under the Missouri river and complete a full environmental impact statement. Please write and bring a letter to the event, addressed to the Army Corps of Engineers with your concerns.

RSVP and share on Facebook. Organized by Idle No More SF Bay, Diablo Rising Tide and 350.org

Thursday, November 17th: Don’t cancel our future!

Last month, speakers addressed CCSF Board of Trustees and described the immediate and lasting chaos, damage, and doubt that class and program cuts insert into their educational futures and growth—and how our college and communities suffer. These cuts let our students down and will send our school into a spiral of diminishing enrollment. We want to be sure they understand and act to change these harmful actions.

Here’s two things you can do to help Stop the Cuts:

  • Join our next Stop the Cuts Committee meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 3-5pmat the AFT 2121 office (311 Miramar Ave. @ Ocean).
  • Tell the CCSF Board: San Franciscans demand an alternative to cutting our college. It’s time to focus on growth! On Thursday, Nov. 17 (time TBA) please join us to make public comment again.

Thursday, November 17th: Join our union and our community allies at the Jobs with Justice Gala
