On Saturday came the most concrete attack to date: a travel ban on seven majority-Muslim countries. Legal residents of the United States detained at airports nationwide, threatened with deportation based on their religion or national origin.
But amidst this barrage of attacks, we have learned that America is ready to resist. Over the weekend, thousands occupied airports, demanding the release of those detained. Millions are already calling themselves The Resistance.
AFT 2121 began our resistance even before Trump took office. In a show of unity, on January 19, we organized hundreds of students, faculty, elected officials, administrators, and even our chief of police, to speak out in love and support for our immigrant students and to declare loudly and proudly that CCSF is a Sanctuary Campus.
In the days and months ahead, there is much work to be done. Recently our AFT 2121 Executive Board voted to support the Rapid Response network. Here is how you can participate and nationally AFT has also responded.
We will continue to organize and stand together for justice. As Cornell West says “Never forget that justice is what love looks like in public.”
Forward Ever
Backwards Never
Love Forever
