2. Administration continues to mislead faculty about full-time faculty replacements

The administration recently told faculty at Chinatown/NB campus that the “SERP” retirement incentive, agreed to by AFT, prevents replacement of retiring faculty for two years. This is patently untrue. The SERP Agreement states that “there is no guarantee of replacement of SERP positions for the first two years (through June 30, 2019).” [emphasis added] It goes on to state that the District commits to 50% replacement of SERP vacancies within five (5) years. The ESL program, including Chinatown/NB, is hard hit by the retirements and is struggling to staff fully enrolled classes in the Fall. AFT has called on the District to approve more full-time replacements, including the current ESL hiring process where there are some 90 applicants for only three (3) positions.

3. (Saturday, May 6) Rally for Inclusion on the 135th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act.

Join AFT 2121, Chinese Progressive Association, Chinese for Affirmative Action and many more on May 6 at 12pm at Portsmouth Square in San Francisco Chinatown for a Rally for Inclusion! On the 135th Anniversary of the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act, we stand together in solidarity to resist the Muslim travel ban and anti-immigrant and refugee policies. Excluding immigrants on the basis of race and religion was wrong then and it’s wrong now!
