CCSF Board of Trustees chooses Mark Rocha as new chancellor.

We had hoped that the process of finding a new Chancellor would end with a candidate that we deserve. That is why we are still so shocked that the Board of Trustees has chosen Mark Rocha to be our next Chancellor. His pattern of a lack of respect for faculty and the entire shared governance process is disturbing. There are lots of red flags from his tenure at Pasadena Community College, Rancho Santiago CCD and Los Angeles CCD. Hopefully that will not be repeated here. We have our doubts, to say the least.

Message to our Board of Trustees

Last night, the Board of Trustees meeting was packed with faculty, some who had never addressed the Board before, urging them to reconsider. The message to our Board is a simple one: Our shock and disappointment are heartfelt. Our voices were ignored. All the signs are there to see. You should have done better for the community you were elected to serve.

We want to thank both former Board President Rafael Mandelman and newly elected Student Trustee Bouthaina Belaydi for the good judgment they displayed in opposing his appointment.

Moving forward

AFT 2121 has been steadfast in its commitment to work for the benefit of our students and community. Our faculty has led the fight against the ACCJC and for full accreditation and for Free City College for all San Franciscans.

That commitment to our students and community will never waver because of this latest decision. Our faculty working with students and community will remain vigilant in holding the new Chancellor and our Board accountable. As always, if there are areas of agreement with the new administration that will help defend quality public education for our students and community, our faculty is ready to take action.
