Unemployment Benefits for Winter

Part timers who don’t have sufficient income from other work are entitled to unemployment benefits over winter break. Even if you probably have an assignment for Spring 2018, you are still eligible. You are considered unemployed until that assignment actually starts, since the assignment isn’t guaranteed.

Apply as soon as possible on or after your last day of work. Benefits are retroactive only to the Sunday of the week in which you apply.

For detailed information about how to calculate your earnings and apply for unemployment, see our AFT unemployment page.

Union elections coming up in Spring 2018!

Elections of AFT 2121 officers and Executive Board, Delegate Assembly reps, and delegates to the SF Labor Council AFL-CIO and National AFT Convention for the 2018-2020 term of office will be held during the Spring 2018 semester. Nomination forms will be accepted through Friday, March 16. Additional nominations will be taken from the floor of the Tuesday, March 20 General Membership meeting. Elections will be held by secret mail ballot election in April 2018.

Earlier, there will be an election for delegates to the statewide CFT Convention, to be held March 23-25, at the Hilton Hotel, Costa Mesa, CA in Orange County. Nominations will be taken at the January 23 Delegate Assembly meeting followed by an election in February.

3 Volunteers Needed to Oversee AFT Elections

Three members are needed to serve on the AFT Election Commission to oversee our Local’s elections during Spring 2018 semester. Commission members meet with AFT 2121 staff to review election procedures and oversee the mailing out and counting of the ballots. Commission members cannot themselves be running for Union office or for the Delegate Assembly. If you are willing to help with this important work, please call 585-2121.
