Calendar: We signed a Tentative Agreement on an academic Calendar for 2018-19.
Transfer: We are close to an agreement which will allow FT faculty to transfer to open positions without going through the entire hiring process.
Evaluation:
The administration proposed changes to the faculty evaluation process that would give deans more power over evaluations. Our team objected strongly and argued in favor of preserving a peer-evaluation approach.
Admin also proposed some changes to tenure review for those who complete their first full-time year via a temporary upgrade from a part-time position. Our team will review the Ed Code regulations before proceeding on this.
Up next:
We are looking for faculty whose workload is calculated at the lab rate and the noncredit rate, and are willing to speak briefly (3-4 minutes) at a bargaining session (Wednesdays, 1:30pm-5pm, MUB 238) about the problems with these pay rates. Contact Jenny Worley (jworley@aft2121.org) to arrange this.
We negotiated for open bargaining sessions so that our members can observe and understand the negotiations process, so we encourage members to attend, observe, and caucus with the team. Negotiation are every Wednesday in MUB 238. We start with a team caucus at 1:00 pm, convene with Admin’s team around 1:30 or 1:45 and continue until about 5:00 pm. Members may attend part or all of a given session.
Can’t come to Open Negotiations? You can still support our Bargaining Team.
We are working together to keep our Union strong and fight right wing attacks on the working class.
Have you signed a new membership form yet?
Hundreds of faculty who have chosen to re-commit to our Union by signing our new membership form — with its loud, proud commitment to “stick with our union” for a full calendar year — have helped to keep us in a powerful position for our negotiations. If you have not done so this school year, please help us keep the momentum going and sign a new AFT 2121 membership form.
