Resist Janus | College for All | more…

(2/22 BOT meeting) Tell your story about the affordability crisis

We all know the cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area is pushing people out. And many of our faculty face housing instability. We need our CCSF leaders to commit to doing what it takes to confront the affordability crisis, retain and attract well-qualified faculty, and protect educational quality at our college. You can help by telling your story. Why do you love your job? Is the affordability crisis threatening your ability to remain an educator? What about your students?

Join our union:

  • in public comment to the Board of Trustees (February 22, 4pm, MUB 140)
  • or share your story at our Open Negotiations (Every Wednesday2pm, MUB 238).

Let’s ask the Board of Trustees and our administration for their support in protecting what matters at our college.

Stand with us against Janus

Next Monday, the Supreme Court will hear Janus vs AFSCME, a case funded by the wealthy 1% to weaken the power of working people. Under the anti-union, anti-worker Trump administration, labor is under attack.

recent study shows that so-called right-to-work laws cost Clinton the states of Michigan and Wisconsin —  and have given Republicans more power all the way through in the Senate, House, state governors and state legislatures.

Resistance is union. And we are working together to keep our Union strong and fight right wing attacks on the working class. In the coming days, you can join our Union at multiple actions to stand solidarity with our local Labor Movement allies.

Have you signed a new membership form?

Making a commitment to each other and our collective power by becoming and staying members has always been crucial for our success. And now , in the face of right wing attacks on the working class, sticking with our Union and other institutions working to protect working class people is an act of resistance. The bottom line is clear: we are all much better off with strong union membership. If you have not done so this school year, please help us keep the momentum going and sign a new AFT 2121 membership form.

(Saturday, February 24th) Education Flashmob!

The Supreme Court is preparing to hear a case that seeks to limit our voices and our ability to fight back against attacks on working families. Educators are too creative to be silenced! Bring friends and families to join us at UESF’s choreographed flash mob.

Saturday, February 24,12-1pm
Harry Bridges Plaza, San Francisco

(Sunday, 2/25) Being the resistance: Sharing songs, stories & strategies

Our President, Tim Killikelly will be speaking at this event about how we can work together to resist Trump and attacks on our unions. Please join us in an afternoon of solidarity and multilingual singing together, featuring performances by Yiddish singer/accordionist Jeanette Lewicki and special guests, EMMA’S REVOLUTION. Brief updates and next steps from Bay Area activist groups (for DACA, immigrant rights, healthcare, racial justice, criminal justice reform, environment, progressive political change, civil rights).  Sponsored by the Workmen’s Circle/Arbeter Ring of Northern California.

(Monday, February 26th) #WeRise Rally in San Francisco

The right to organize is one of the most basic rights of working people. Don’t let them take that away from us. This country needs to hear our voices now more than ever.

On February 26th, the Supreme Court will hear Oral Arguments in Janus v. AFSCME, a case funded by the wealthy elite 1% of Americans who want to make it harder for working people to join together and use our power in numbers. On this day, we will be hitting the streets to show that we will not be divided by the corporate elites seeking to rig the economy further against working people.

Monday, February 26th, 12pm
SF City Hall
RSVP and Invite

(Tuesday, February 27) Delegate Assembly

The AFT 2121 Executive Board is proposing changes to our Union Constitution and By-Laws. To be more inline with national practices we propose a significant change in the role of retired Union members in the Local’s decision-making structures. These changes are being discussed by the AFT Executive Board and the AFT Retiree Chapter and all members are invited to join this discussion at the Delegate Assembly meeting. Please come to the discussion. Any changes that the Delegate Assembly approves will be subject to a vote of the membership in April.

The proposed measure to create an estate tax on the wealthiest 0.2% of Californians to make tuition free at all the Community Colleges, CSUs and UCs statewide – is growing – and still needs your help!
