Student council officially calls on all CCSF students to support faculty on April 27th

On behalf of the student body of CCSF, the AS Executive Council hereby calls for students to stand in solidarity with faculty on the day of their strike by joining faculty on the picket lines on April 27, demanding that administration (1) meet AFT 2121’s specific demands for a fair contract, and (2) abandon its disastrous downsizing plan, and instead invest in re-building the school and increasing enrollment.

A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL, DECLARING STUDENT SUPPORT FOR THE AFT 2121 STRIKE, DEMANDING THAT THE COLLEGE COMPLY WITH THE STRIKE DEMANDS, AND CALLING FOR A STUDENT/FACULTY JOINT DAY OF ACTION IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE FACULTY

WHEREAS, the mission statement of City College of San Francisco (CCSF) states that “City College of San Francisco belongs to the community and continually strives to provide an accessible, affordable, and high quality education to all its students”; and

WHEREAS, City College of San Francisco (CCSF) faculty are now compensated at 3.5% below 2007 salaries, while workloads have increased, and inflation and the cost of living have increased exponentially in one of the most expensive areas in the country; and

WHEREAS, administration has rejected AFT 2121’s proposals to make up for nearly a decade of wage cuts, instead countering with a proposal that leaves faculty salaries in the previous decade and includes a 26% cut to college programs, as well as a plan to lay off one-quarter of the faculty within the next six years; and

WHEREAS, the deteriorating faculty working conditions are negatively impacting student learning conditions; and

WHEREAS, it is the purpose of the Associated Students (AS) Executive Council “to serve as the voice of the students…[t]o be responsive to the needs of the Students[, and to] provide ongoing and widespread dissemination of information to enhance awareness of campus issues and maximize input from students at respective campuses” (ASCCSF Constitution Art. II); therefore be it

RESOLVED, that on behalf of the student body of CCSF, the AS Executive Council hereby calls for students to stand in solidarity with faculty on the day of their strike by joining faculty on the picket lines on April 27, demanding that administration (1) meet AFT 2121’s specific demands for a fair contract, and (2) abandon its disastrous downsizing plan, and instead invest in re-building the school and increasing enrollment; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the AS Executive Council:

1. Allocates $50 from its FY16 Student Representation Fee budget for the printing of color flyers to advertise the date, time, and location of the student/faculty day of action;

2. Requests that the Office of Student Activities post the information about the time and locations of the April 27 day of action (to be written by the students upon adoption of this resolution) on a designated webpage on the Associated Students CCSF website no later than April 20; and

3. Requests that the Office of Student Affairs and Wellness forward an email which includes a link to the aforementioned webpage, as well as a copy of this resolution, to the entire CCSF student body on the morning of April 25.
