New info: Blue Shield update as of 10/16/17

Yesterday, we spoke with a Blue Shield representative to try to clear up the confusion about Blue Shield’s new plan. Here is what we were told:

ALL BLUE SHIELD MEMBERS WILL BE SWITCHED TO THE NEW TRIO PLAN BY DEFAULT.
This will happen on January 1, 2018. If you wish to stay in your current Access+ plan, you must fill out an open enrollment form in October.

The Trio plan is slightly cheaper than Access+, although all rates will go up January.
View new 2018 rates.

The Trio network is slightly smaller than the Access+ network. It includes UCSF, but not St. Luke’s, for example. The doctors and specialists you see under your current plan may not be available under Trio. If you switch to Trio and your primary care physician is not included in the Trio network, you will have to choose a new doctor.

Check if your doctors are covered under the two plans:

• For Access+: blueshieldca.com/networkhmo
