Class Cuts Information Request

What is the District policy on cutting classes before the semester starts? How much time will they give low-enrolled classes to grow? It is not clear what the actual policy is or what the target numbers may be.
That is why on May 14, AFT 2121 filed an information request seeking the written policy guiding cuts for the Fall 2018 class schedule. Today, we received a response from VC Dianna Gonzales. She reports the District is working on draft guidelines with feedback from Deans and Chairs and that AFT 2121 will have a chance for input.

We will continue to press the District to keep classes open and to let you know as we get more information. We are eager to address faculty concerns about how premature cuts with detrimentally effect students and the college.

Retirement and End-of-Year Picnic

fun in the sunIn these final days of the semester, we can almost feel the sun and down time that comes with summer break. We’ll have an opportunity to reflect on our good work and successes of Spring 2018: students’ achievements, opportunity and enrollment growth through FREE City, a victorious contract campaign, strengthening of our union. The semester’s end also brings closure for Chris Hanzo, our Executive Director for many years, who will be retiring at the end of June. AFT 2121 will celebrate his retirement in combination with our union end-of-year party by hosting a big picnic in the park. We hope you, your family, and friends will join the fun! Sunday, June 10 (11am-3pm) in Gloden Gate Park, Lindley Meadow, spaces #1-4.
