(Mon. thru Wed. 5/7-5/9) AFSCME 3299 on Strike: Calling all Labor Movement Supporters!

Our AFT 2121 Executive Board has Unanimously voted to endorse AFSCME 3299 in their strike. Please wear your AFT 2121 t-shirt and go out to support them. Here’s what they need:

AFSCME 3299, which represents over 24,000 service and patient care workers across the 10 UC campuses and 5 medical centers, has called a statewide 3-day strike, on May 7-9th! AFSCME 3299 has been bargaining with the UC for more than a year. With contracts expired, the UC has implemented cuts on service workers that will drive them further into poverty, while refusing to address the issues of growing racial inequality or any of the demands AFSCME 3299 has put forward to address these disparities. At the same time, UC is proposing cuts to health care, wage takeaways, and a dangerous plan to destabilize the pension system.

On May 8-9th, UC nurses represented by CNA and professional and technical workers represented by UPTE-CWA 9119 will join them, making this the largest strike in the history of the University of California, involving more than 50,000 workers.
