The Executive Board of AFT 2121 has heard from members who are upset over the May 15, 2018 resolution on Gaza passed by the AFT Delegate Assembly.
Consistent with current practice, the resolution was brought to the Delegate Assembly by a rank-and-file member for consideration by the Delegates. Current practice allows any rank-and-file member to bring resolutions to the floor, without notice, and request that the Delegates vote to approve or reject a proposed resolution.
Some members take issue with the content of the resolution; others have expressed concern over the lack of notice to the membership about the resolution prior to the May 15 meeting.
In response, our Executive Board discussed our current practice and voted to refer a proposed new draft policy on resolutions, consistent with the Union’s Constitution and Bylaws to the Delegate Assembly for discussion and potential adoption.
We expect to discuss this proposed policy change at the next Delegate Assembly meeting which will be held at the Ocean Campus on Tuesday, August 28 from 3-5pm in MUB 238. All AFT 2121 members are encouraged to participate.
