Class cuts don’t add up

Classes have been cut during summer instruction, but so far we don’t know the full extent of the damage. In previous semesters, when faculty and students put pressure on administration about class cuts, administration committed to posting cuts information on the CCSF website. But the “schedule changes” page on the CCSF website hasn’t been updated since Spring 2017. We requested current information from administration, but haven’t yet received a response. The cuts we know of have disproportionately affected Black faculty.

Today, downtown faculty member Virginia Marshall and AFT 2121 Treasurer Yvonne Webb were joined by students in protesting summer class cuts at the downtown campus, picketing and chanting “no more class cuts.” Virginia’s two keyboarding classes have been cancelled and Yvonne’s accounting class was also cut. We invite students to contact their Chair, Dean and the Board of Trustees to express their frustration with these continuing cuts.

Classes in ESL and TRST were saved after our Union questioned the process. They were allowed to run for another week, and many of them gained numbers in that time.

We need to continue pushing back against class cuts. You can help! Please join us for public comment to the CCSF Board of Trustees this Thursday 6/28 at 4pm.
