(Wed. 9/19 thru Sat. 9/22) Building our power: Membership drive

Building our power is the best remedy for feeling overwhelmed in these intense political times. As always, the most important tool we have is our ability to talk to each other. We have to reach out to our colleagues, listen to each others’ ideas, show up for each other and move forward together. We have to stick with our Union. With that in mind we are doing an Ocean Campus Membership Drive this week. To help:

If you would like to attend a training there are two short trainings today:
  • NOTE LOCATION CHANGE – AFT 2121 Office from 12-1pm (311 Miramar Ave. @ Ocean)
  • Evans Campus (room 256) from 4:15-5pm

To keep our Union strong we need all of our colleagues to join us. House visits over the Summer were a huge success. Now we need to keep the momentum going!

(Thurs. 9/20) Li Lovett’s Birthday Fundraiser

Come to birthday party and School Board campaign kickoff for our own AFT 2121 member Li Lovett on September 20th, 2018 — with Supervisor Jane Kim, President Brigitte Davila of CCSF’s Board of Trustees, with dance performances from members of Carnaval and United Rhythms SF.This event is a fundraiser but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. Bring friends, bring family, but keep in mind that this is a 21+ event.

RSVP and invite

(Sat. 9/22, 10am) Labor & Educators for Gordon Mar | Mega Mobilization

All AFT 2121 members are invited to come out to talk to voters in the Sunset District to support Gordon Mar’s run for Supervisor in District 4 and our own AFT 2121 member Li Lovett’s run for SF School Board.

Saturday, September 22nd, 10am at Ortega Library (Ortega & 39th Avenue). Please RSVP for Saturdayand for our other upcoming election mobilizations.

Gordon Mar earned the endorsement of our union because of his decades of supporting public education and teachers. Li Lovett has been a CCSF counselor and leader in our Union for many years. Most recently, both Li Lovett and Gordon Mar worked closely with our Union to make Free City real.

AFT 2121 makes class cuts info request

The main focus of  AFT’s regular consultation with the District this Monday was class cuts. The District administration attempted to describe their plan and rationale for class cuts and scheduling which resulted in more questions than answers.

The District asserts that the cuts and reductions should be viewed as a reallocation of resources and expressed a desire to create a “model schedule” for Spring of 2019 which does not require any cuts because “productivity and efficiency” will be built in. AFT pushed back seeking additional information about the process used to arrive at this “model schedule” and these programmatic goals and budgets. The District’s subsequent inability to clearly articulate their process raises serious concerns. AFT has made a formal information request to gain clarity and transparency from the District about how our college community and vital stakeholders have been engaged in these important decisions about the future of our college.

Know your rights survey

Our AFT 2121 member Tenaya Lafore has asked for help with finding out what kind of interest there is among CCSF faculty in “Know Your Rights” workshops about your rights as employees of CCSF. This survey is confidential. Newer faculty, faculty of color, and part-time faculty are encouraged to participate.

AFT 2121 Flex Day meetings

The Flex Day reporting page on Web4 has finally been corrected. Four workshops, including two AFT 2121 events, were missing from the reporting page. They’re now there, and you can report your flex activities.
However, they’re listed as if they happened on 8/31. Don’t let the date confuse you — go ahead and report the workshops and meetings you attended.
Flex requirements for faculty working part-time have changed with this contract. Administration has not updated the CCSF website or the Web4 flex summary to reflect the change. Please see https://www.aft2121.org/flex/ for the correct requirements.
