During my constituent report at the Board meeting last week, I outlined several reasons to institute a moratorium on class cancellations for the already severely reduced Spring 2019 schedule. In the interest preventing rumors, low morale, and fear among the faculty and students over the holidays, the faculty ask that you issue such a moratorium on class cancellations during the winter break, and also clarify the process and timeline for any post-break decisions about the Spring schedule.
Further, to keep our college focused on growth, we ask that you implement these policies:
Require deans to work with chairs to create measurable, accountable plans for growth.
Allocate FTE to departments so they can add back classes they know will fill.
Support program- and campus-specific outreach efforts with time and financial resources.
Ensure that our registration system works and is student-friendly.
We do hope that you will undertake these measures for the good of our college, our students, and our community as we head into the holidays.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Worley
