After years of divestment in LA schools, UTLA members and community partners are standing up to ensure that every student receives the quality education they deserve. They seek what every school district in the state should provide: Smaller class sizes; more nurses, counselors, psychologists, and librarians; competitive wages; and community schools and supports for families.
As the strike approaches, we ask that you show your support for UTLA by doing one or more of the following:
- Wear #RedforEd on CCSF FLEX Day, on Friday, January 11th
UTLA has asked that all CFT members wear #RedforEd this Friday, Jan 11, as a sign of solidarity and take photos and post online, tagging @UTLAnow and @CFTunion, and using the hashtags #RedforEd #IamCFT #WeAreLA and #UTLAstrong. If you are not on social media, please email pics to mhardy@cft.org.
- Sign the CFT petition
Take a moment to sign the CFT petition in support of the courageous educators of UTLA, and their stand against austerity in LAUSD schools.
- Come out to school walk-ins on Tuesday, January 15th
AFT is calling for nationwide school walk-ins on January 15th to support UTLA. During the walk-ins, parents, educators, students and other invited guests are encouraged to gather in front of their schools 30-45 minutes before the school day begins to rally and listen to speakers express support for Los Angeles educators, before walking in as a group to begin their school day. For more info contact CFT Rep Ed Wongewong@aft.org.
Check out UTLA’s campaign website for more information about the strike. Frequent updates will also be posted on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds.
