All AFT 2121 members are invited to join our Union’s Independent Flex activities for Thursday, 8/15/19 at Downtown Campus in room 624. We will be having lunch together from 12-1pm followed by and a Student Debt Relief Workshop from 1-3pm (members are not required to attend this workshop to have lunch).
Please RSVP below no later than 7pm tomorrow, Wednesday, 8/14.
Faculty who are not yet AFT 2121 members yet but would like to participate in the lunch or workshop are invited to fill out a membership form.
Join our AFT 2121 Flex Day dance picket to protest classes cancelled over summer
In a meeting with AFT 2121 on Monday, the Administration agreed to shelve plans to cancel classes with more than 20 enrolled, and not to pursue such cancellations in the future. In addition, the District reaffirmed a commitment to follow their own enrollment management policies.
These wins are good news, but we can’t forget that over 100 Fall semester classes were cancelled over the summer (some in early July!), and deans are now warning faculty to expect more cancellations next week.
To protest the damage done by these cuts to our curriculum and our college, AFT urges all members and allies to:
1) join us for a peaceful protest of these over-zealous cancellations on Flex Day at the MUB Building from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. There will be singing and dancing! We will be holding an informational dance picket outside of the Chancellor’s Address in MUB 140.
Sign up to join our action. 2) wear your red AFT 2121 T-shirt (or any red shirt) to this Friday’s Flex Day, or find us at MUB during our event to get one!
3) tomorrow, students an faculty will be joining AFT 2121 staff at 2:30pm at the AFT 2121 office (311 Miramar Ave. @ Ocean) to do some phone-banking and sign making. Anyone who cares about stopping the cuts is invited to join us!
