(10/15) FLEX Day: Wear #RedforEd & add to our CHEF pot!

AFT 2121 leaders have been working with local elected officials, community allies, college trustees, and our administration to formulate a proposal for a Community Higher Education Fund, or CHEF. The CHEF is modeled on San Francisco Unified’s Public Education Enrichment Fund, which was created to provide city funding for things including Sports, Libraries, Arts, Music, and pre-schools when the state cut off funding for those programs. Similarly, CHEF would support crucial City College programs now being underfunded by the state’s new community college funding formula. It would be a clear statement that San Francisco believes in keeping the community in our community college, and that our city is willing to support those programs.

Currently, CHEF is in the earliest prep stage — we’re just peeling the potatoes and chopping the onions! Before we really get cooking, we need your input! What ingredients would you include to insure that CHEF supports a rich, well-seasoned curriculum at City College?

  • Stop by our AFT 2121 Flex Day table at RAM Plaza between 8:30-10am or 11:30am-12:30pm to fill out a “recipe” card. You can name a specific program, service, class, project, or position that CHEF should support, and toss your card into the stockpot!
  • AFT 2121 asks all faculty to wear #RedForEd on Flex Day, Tuesday, 10/15. Please wear your red AFT 2121 t-shirt or other red clothing. We have just received a new batch of red AFT 2121 t-shirts and we will have red AFT 2121 t-shirts at our Flex Day table tomorrow.

(10/15 & 10/16) Support Courthouse Engineers
Building Engineers working at Southern California courthouses managed by the Judicial Council of California (JCC) are fighting for a first contract and equal treatment on the job! For years, the JCC has treated these Engineers as second-class citizens with substandard training, low pay, and no voice at the workplace.

The Executive Committee of the San Francisco Labor Council voted to unanimously support the Operating Engineers as they rally on October 15th and 16th. We urge you to come out to support our brothers & sisters and tell the JCC it’s time to do right by their Engineers!

Rallies on Oct 15th and 16th from 9 AM to Noon at 455 Golden Gate Avenue. For more information and to spread the word, download this FLIER.
