Schools and communities first

We are working with CFT, UESF, SEIU 2015, SEIU 1021, IFPTE21, SF Rising, and others on Schools and Communities First (Prop 13 reform), a state initiative that will ensure huge corporations finally pay their fair share of taxes with no impact on property taxes for residential homeowners, farmers, and small business owners. On Saturday, AFT 2121 attended the SF kickoff mobilization for the measure, which we are working to get on the November 2020 ballot. If passed, this initiative would bring in $12 Billion per year for education and infrastructure projects. In San Francisco alone it could bring in $900 Million per year, and 40% of that would go to education!AFT 2121 has a goal of collecting 1,200 signatures for the measure by March 2020. You can help by asking your friends, family, colleagues, students, and neighbors to add their signature to a petition to help get this measure on the November 2020 ballot. Contact Jenny Worley (jworley@aft2121.org) to help.

(Wed. 11/20, 6-8pm) The Power of Us: Jobs with Justice 9th Annual Gala

Join AFT 2121, Jobs with Justice SF, and Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, champion of AB 5, one of the labor movement’s biggest wins for over a million California workers at the 2019 Gala. From Chicago to Oakland, the upsurge in teacher power is leading the way for the labor movement’s revitalization. Let’s celebrate!

Honor Oakland educators with OEA who led a week long strike, part of labor’s militant upsurge. Honor Youth vs. Apocalypse, inspiring youth who helped led the global climate strike. Enjoy dinner, drinks, music and celebrate our victories with labor and community together!
