Update on efforts to restore Spring 2020 classes

UPDATE ON EFFORTS TO RESTORE SPRING CLASSES

This week, AFT 2121 leaders with faculty, students, and community members, have launched an intense lobby effort to ask San Francisco Supervisors for funds to restore all of the canceled classes immediately.

We will know how successful we have been by this coming Tuesday, December 10.

Please know that the various rallies throughout the campuses along with your powerful calls, letters, and e-mail messages to the Supervisors have greatly bolstered our efforts at City Hall. The Supervisors have been listening. This collaborative effort across the City by all of us who love City College is deeply inspiring.

Stay tuned for more information by Monday about the status of this effort and what you might be able to do to ensure complete success early next week.

Thank you again for all you are doing. Please keep it up.

PLEASE call and email each supervisor to ask for funding to restore the Spring Schedule!

Calls are the most effective tactic, but if you are unable to call, you can email. Below is a suggested message and the contact information you need. Please email each supervisor and the mayor separately and cc CCSF’s Board of Trustees and Chancellor Rocha in every message you send.

The supervisors to especially target right now are Peskin, Yee, Fewer, Mandelman, Brown, Safai, and Stefani.

Suggested Message:

Subject Line:   Urgent Request for CCSF’s Students
Dear _________,

Just before midnight on November 19th, CCSF administration cancelled just under 300 classes from the Spring 2020 schedule. This represents a further cut of 13% to an already drastically reduced schedule, putting students at risk of not being able to complete their degrees and others left without the educational opportunities they need and deserve.

The cuts were implemented to address a budget shortfall which is largely due to the disconnect between what the state is willing to fund for its community colleges and what San Francisco wants its community college to be. The administration has identified that $2.7 million is necessary to restore the classes.

Please sign on to the ordinance to provide this funding by December 10th! We need to ensure that City College of San Francisco remains the Community College the city wants and needs.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
_________
