March 15 notices today

Dear Colleagues,

This message is to everyone who received a March 15 notice today and for everyone who wants to stand in solidarity with your colleagues in defending our CCSF.

As faculty peers at AFT we are incensed by the threat posed by March 15th letters. We are all feeling the threat of cuts and need to stand together. We are calling each person on the “pink slip” list over the next two days to talk all this over. In the meantime, we want to make sure you have a sense of next steps to take to protect our college, our students, and our colleagues:

  • First, a March 15th notice does not necessarily lead to a layoff. If you have received a March 15th notice, we urge you to immediately appeal. The form to appeal is hereWe want to make any layoff process as difficult for the district as possible. Appealing is your right, and we urge you to use every possible avenue to protect yourself.

  • Second, nothing is final yet. A March 15th notice is a type of warning, not a guarantee of a layoff. Actual layoff notices come by May 15th, And even if you do receive a layoff notice on May 15th, you have recall rights and we will continue to discuss further employment protections as we get closer to the date.

  • Additionally, Fall schedules are not yet set in stone. What assignments our college offers ultimately depend on the power we can build over the coming months. You cannot be laid off if there are assignments available, and we are doing everything we can to fight for assignments.

  • For more information about the March 15th notices, please read this FAQ.

This is the time to fight, and, as always, our power is in numbers. Next Friday, March 12, we will hold a socially distanced Pink Slip Rally on the steps of City Hall and a virtual Press Conference and Action. RSVP and share this invite far and wide: https://bit.ly/aft2121March12. This will be an essential opportunity to broadcast our message to our city: CCSF is under attack and we are fighting back for our students and our college.

Please make every effort to join your colleagues for this action on the steps of City Hall or join us via Zoom. You will make a difference when you stand side by side with your colleagues. And take care of yourselves–you are valuable, you are not alone, and we are going to fight this together.

In solidarity,

Malaika Finkelstein
President, AFT 2121
