AFT 2121 charges CCSF with unfair labor practice

On May 5, 2021, AFT 2121 filed an unfair labor practice charge with the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) over the District’s failure to bargain in good faith.

We’re engaged in impacts bargaining over layoffs that the District claims are a budgetary necessity. Yet the District has failed to provide the budget information we need, and has provided false information. In addition, VC of Finance John al-Amin has been absent from negotiations, and the District team has been unable to work on budgetary issues without him. We hope that filing this ULP will encourage the District to join us at the table in good faith.

RSVP now for essential updates from your bargaining team this Friday May 7 at 9am.

CCSF’s misleading survey on spending the COVID relief money

The City College administration has created a survey about how to spend the COVID relief money allocated to CCSF from the federal government’s HEERF grants (Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund). Between HEERF I, II, and III, the school has received over $54 million since May of 2020, and they are finally requesting input from the CCSF community.*

The Rebuild City College Campaign is distributing the survey far and wide and including recommendations on how to complete the survey, along with a document that fact checks the misleading material attached to the survey.

Go here for the survey form, and please read the information below to help inform your response. The survey, itself, will take less than a minute to complete. Read the fact checking document, here.

What Does Racial Justice in Education Look Like?

CFT organized panel
Tuesday, May 11
5:00 – 6:30pm

Gain a better understanding of the effect that White Supremacy has had on our education system. The workshop will focus on how the following concerns will be impactful:

  • Underfunding of education (the impact on our students)
  • Diversifying faculty and staff at our institutions and the impact on students
  • Including ethnic studies in educational levels K-14
  • Presenting all subjects from an ethnically diverse curriculum
  • Closing the opportunity gap for students and the de-escalation of police on campuses

SDI Correction on April Paychecks

SDI is State Disability Insurance. Part-time faculty at CCSF pay into SDI and are eligible for short-term disability leave. Full-time faculty at CCSF are already covered by FMLA and Partially Paid Sick Leave, and do not pay into SDI.

On January 1, 2021, the State of California raised the SDI rates on January 1, 2021, from 1.0% of our wages to 1.20%. Something went wrong, and our college didn’t receive the notice or didn’t get it to the payroll department. Our deduction was still only 1% in January, February, and March. The District has now fixed the error and our rates went up to 1.2%. and the April paycheck showed a higher deduction, to make up for the missing amounts earlier this year.

Petition – Fossil Free California

Tell CalSTRS to Divest! CalPERS and CalSTRS refuse to use divestment from fossil fuels as a tool to address the racial injustices and the social, physical, and financial impacts of climate change. Fossil fuels exposure causes asthma, respiratory disease, and cancer in the US and particularly impacts low income communities and communities of color who are disproportionately located near industry and mining sites. Despite hearing personal anecdotes of disease and loss from youth and elders alike, CalSTRS and CalPERS refuse to acknowledge their complicity in the fossil fuel market. It is time to divest.  https://fossilfreeca.org/petition/
