COPE Board of Trustees Endorsement Vote
AFT’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) met Friday (8/16) to discuss AFT 2121’s endorsements in the CCSF Board of Trustees race this November. Thank you to all the members who ended a long FLEX day with this important set of considerations.
AFT 2121 members heard from incumbent Aliya Chisti, as well as three new candidates—Heather McCarty, Luis Zamora, and Ruth Ferguson—who are running on a slate (i.e. a team of candidates with a common platform). Incumbent Alan Wong already earned our endorsement last spring as a proven labor ally who has stood against downsizing and layoffs. After hearing from candidates and holding a complex discussion, COPE voted to recommend no further endorsements for the CCSF Board of Trustees race.
Though the candidates did not receive our body’s recommendation, they have demonstrated a willingness to work with and listen to AFT faculty leaders as well as our students. We look forward to building on these relationships with all who are elected this November for the good of our college, students, and city
Cast your ballot: Vote Yes to uphold COPE’s recommendation of no further endorsements for the Board of Trustees race this November. (A No vote means rejecting the recommendation in favor of discussing other options at the next COPE meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 at 1:30pm.) VOTE HERE. You have 48 hours to vote, and voting is open to all members in good standing.
