As many of you know, City College was over-deducting for OPEB (retiree health benefits) from hundreds of full-time faculty for years in violation of our contract. AFT’s work to correct this led us to file a formal grievance (link here) with the District in November 2023 on behalf of these full-time faculty, demanding that the college end the over-deductions.
We’re pleased to report that we’ve reached an agreement in lieu of arbitration. This is a win-win, as it saves the District money that should be spent on students and more quickly remedies the damage done to faculty. This is also about respect.
We’re now waiting for Chancellor Bailey to implement our agreement and call on him to do so ASAP: full-time faculty deserve the restoration of this pay in a timely manner. AFT will continue pushing for immediate restoration of your pay and keep all faculty informed of this progress.
