Alan Wong’s Win is a Testament to Your Collective Power
Alan Wong has been re-elected to the CCSF Board of Trustees, and his victory is a testament to the hard work of AFT/City College faculty, students, and community supporters.
Alan was running in a tough political environment–he’s the only candidate who won the Board race who did not have the backing of the local Democratic party establishment (known as the DCCC). How did he do it? Because you as a faculty union led a coalition of supporters to talk with voters about the importance of electing Alan Wong. That’s organizing, and with it, you have ensured that a solid majority on your Board remains open to listening to student and faculty voices and holding City College leaders accountable to our mission.
Two and half years ago, you had a Board who was rubber stamping decisions based on insufficient and inaccurate information. Your hard work as a union has changed that, and the direction of our college is the better for it.
AFT would like to congratulate the newest member on our Board Heather McCarty and Aliya Chisti for her re-election. We’re still awaiting confirmation on the final seat. As a faculty union, we look forward to working with this new Board for the good of our students and city. City College is a gem, and it deserves engaged and accountable leaders.
