Unemployment Workshop Thurs | Unemployment over Winter Break | January Premiums Medical Benefits

CFT Unemployment Insurance Workshop – Thursday 12/12, 4-5:30pm on Zoom

REGISTER HERE for CFT’s unemployment insurance workshop! If you are part-time faculty, then it is very important that you know that you’re eligible for unemployment both over winter break and summer. Even if you expect to be teaching the following semester, the hard truth is that part-time faculty are not assured future assignments so it’s important that you familiarize yourselves with the unemployment insurance process.

CFT is our state-wide affiliate, and their workshops are open to all AFT 2121 members. This one will guide contingent faculty through the online unemployment filing process for both new and reopened claims. It will include information about how to deal with phone interviews, denials, and appeals.

The presenter will be John Govsky. He is a CFT vice president and the creator of Contingent World. He has many years of experience researching, writing about, and assisting contingent faculty with unemployment issues.

You can also check out AFT 2121’s guide to EDD, with step-by-step instructions, resources, and information specific to our college.

Unemployment for Part-Timers over Winter Break

Part-time faculty are eligible for unemployment benefits over winter break. Apply on or immediately after your last day of work. If you have a full-term assignment, your last day is officially 12/20/24, even if your specific schedule doesn’t match that.

January Medical Benefits for Faculty Working Part-Time

In January, many part-timers don’t know what our Spring semester workload will be. To cope with that, CCSF uses our Fall load to determine benefits eligibility for the month of January. That means we have to pay the January premiums.

• If you have medical insurance through CCSF in Fall semester, eligibility continues through January 31, whether or not you have a Spring assignment.
• If you have a Spring assignment, or if you are in Kaiser Member Only and therefore have no premium to pay, you don’t have to do anything.
• If you do not have a Spring assignment, you may need to arrange to pay the January premium. The deadline to pay is December 24th.
