Fight Trump and Musk with AFT COPE
In the battle against the anti-democratic takeover of America, one group has been stepping up to the fight, America’s labor unions.
While AFSCME has been organizing to protect the federal workforce, our national affiliate the American Federation of Teachers has been working to fight the administration on multiple fronts, including lawsuits to protect our privacy rights and free speech as faculty from dangerous, anti-intellectual attacks. AFT is also organizing collective actions and funding advertising campaigns highlighting the hypocrisy of the current administration. See the AFT New York City Times Square billboard →.jpg)
Because of political finance laws, labor unions – including AFT – engage in politics not with member dues, but with your political contributions to COPE. AFT National developed its COPE structure to strategically maximize our resources, and since 1980, our local has proudly participated with our own local COPE or Committee on Political Education.
How it works: The money you voluntarily contribute to COPE at the local level goes directly to AFT’s National fight to defend our public education system and democracy. AFT National then reimburses our local for those COPE funds, which we democratically allocate as we see fit. That means every dollar you give to COPE fights twice!
Join us in our campaign to get every member of AFT 2121 up to $21.21 and amplify our collective voices nationwide and at home in the fight against authoritarianism.
Ghost Student Survey
Have ghost students affected your workload, your enrollment, your teaching practices?
AFT 2121 is gathering data to measure the impact of ghost students, something we urge the administration to join us in doing. Several members of your union Executive Board spoke at last night’s Board of Trustees meeting about the havoc that these fraudulent cyber attacks are causing with our enrollment, our workloads, and our ability to serve the very real students who need us. Once we have more systematic data from our members, we can work strategically to advocate for our faculty and students.
Thank you to the many faculty who have already shared their experiences with us! To help us organize and quantify the data on the impact, we are asking all faculty to please fill out this survey (link) and let us know how ghost students are impacting your job at CCSF: https://forms.gle/
The Power of AFT National and Labor Coalitions
A coalition of labor unions representing over 2 million workers filed a federal lawsuit within minutes of Trump’s swearing in, challenging a data heist carried out by Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency inside three federal government departments. Read all about it here.
