Earlier today, the City College of San Francisco Board of Trustees announced their selection of our next permanent chancellor. In a 6 – 0 vote, Dr. Kimberlee Messina was selected pending approval of her contract at the regular meeting of the Board on June 26.
CCSF was fortunate to have an immensely talented pool of candidates apply for the chancellor position in this round of hiring, and Dr. Messina received top scores from the hiring committee.
Dr. Messina brings 28 years of experience in community college education, a track record of innovative leadership, and a commitment to supporting our most vulnerable students.
There is much speculation as to the reason for the Board’s pivot from their previously announced selection of Dr Cortez. The truth is we don’t know why or how things changed. The evolution and details of their decision, from the Board’s first announcement, to their vote today, is protected by Closed Session rules outlined in the Brown Act, and no one who was part of the decision is sharing why there was a pivot. As frustrating as this roller coaster of a process has been, we are glad that the college community now has a definitive answer as to who will lead us in the coming years.
We hope you all will join us in welcoming Dr. Messina to the CCSF community! We look forward to building a working relationship with Dr. Messina as we work to move City College into its next 90 years.
