Meet CFT President Jeff Freitas at next Friday’s in-person FLEX

I know you may be mourning the end of the summer. And may be energized (stressed?) for the school year to start and the sun to return to SF.
I am all of the above! AND looking forward to working with you. I’ll be helping lead AFT’s organizing team this year, and my goal is to make our union a true home for ALL faculty, so we’re united for the fights ahead, including our new contract. Can you believe our contract expires this year? We all have work to do to fight for our salaries, contract, students, and college.
As we consider the relationships at this moment between our contract, our college, and our country, please join me at:
the in-person AFT Flex Day EVENT on Friday 8/15 at 3:30-4:30 in STEAM 102
At this IN-PERSON only event, Jeff Freitas, president of the California Federation of Teachers, will be there to help us consider the connections at this moment between our work for our students at CCSF and for students and their communities across the country.
We will also get briefly into our plan for the year and your important role in our success. Please be there in person – and RSVP here.
Your mission if you choose to accept it: can you bring two colleagues with you? (Prizes for completion of mission!) This is the heart of union work: our success at hearing each other leads directly to our success at the bargaining table.
See you there!

CalSTRS refunds for the 2% at 60 at the end of August – Grievance Settlement
Two years ago, AFT won the restoration of salary concessions during the 2021-22 academic year. However, the District violated our agreement by treating your restoration as a standard salary increase with a Defined Benefit rate rather than a supplemental payment with a lower deduction. This action harmed the college’s budget and your paycheck.
AFT filed a grievance over this issue, and reached another settlement with the District. The District already paid the first group of faculty in the 2% at 62 benefit tier, and now the faculty in the 2% at 60 group will receive their payments. Payroll has received the refunds from CalSTRS and will be including them in your August check.
How do I know the amount is correct? You should be receiving the difference between your Defined Benefit Program Supplement rate and the 10.25% applied to the gross amount of your salary restoration in your 4/30/24 paycheck. If you are in the 2% at 60 CalSTRS benefit group, your DBP Supplement rate is 8%.
This win was the result of faculty working together as a union to demand the correction of accounting mistakes by our previous administration. Your union continues to protect your contractual rights, supporting and strengthening the faculty community and working for the college we and our students deserve.
