General Membership Meeting 10/14, Free City College, and More!

General Member Meeting Tuesday, 10/14, 3pm on Zoom

Did you know that our contract expires this June? Yup. That means now is the time to share our priorities and fight together for a stronger contract and better college. All AFT 2121 members are encouraged to attend our fall semester General Member Meeting on Tuesday, October 14, from 3-4:30pm on Zoom. Learn about the campaign for a new faculty contract and share your thoughts. We’ll also discuss union organizing at the national and state level – through our affiliates AFT and CFT – to fight the current administration’s attacks on academic freedom, higher education, and democracy and share opportunities for concerned members to take action.

Free City Story of the Week

Free City has provided free education to over 120,000 San Franciscans since its inception in 2017. AFT 2121 worked with students, community and labor groups, and local political leaders to establish Free City, and now we’re working with the same coalition to protect the program into the future.

After saving Free City from major cuts last year, the Free City Coalition is building support for a new agreement that preserves the promise of accessible higher education and vital workforce training for generations of San Franciscans to come.

We’re excited to begin sharing student stories to remind all of us about the value of this landmark program for our students, community, and college.

AFT and AAUP kick off Higher Ed Campaign: ‘Saving Lives, Building Futures, Powering the Economy’

Our national affiliate–the American Federation of Teachers–and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) have joined forces as two of the largest and most active unions in higher education to launch a major national campaign to protect our mission from political and economic attacks.

The campaign, “Higher Education: Saving Lives, Building Futures, Powering the Economy,” will run through the 2026 midterm election. Our goal is not only to defend our institutions from the Trump administration’s relentless pursuit of disastrous funding cuts and program eliminations, but to advance a vision of higher education as a democratic, accessible and transformative public good. To learn more, click here.
