Bargaining Survey – Tell Us What You Think!

Series of boxes with a red checkmark

Our union bargaining survey is live now – and closing at the end of the semester! We want to hear your priorities for our next contract. Your precinct rep may have already approached you about this – and if you already completed the survey, that’s great! If you haven’t filled it out yet, please take a few minutes now to do so here: bit.ly/survey4bargain The survey asks you for some basic contact information and offers two lists of common and less-common contract issues, asking you to rank your top 5. There is also a space to type in your own thoughts and priorities, or explain why you ranked issues as you did. Everyone in the bargaining unit (union member or not) is welcome to fill it out – and it will only take you 10 minutes or less. Do it now!

Some people have asked, why the contact information? A union is only as powerful as its ability to mobilize and engage members in working for the priorities YOU identify! We need to know which issues you care about, so we can invite you to participate when those issues are on the line.

Take Action to Save the Department of Education

Donald Trump recently announced a plan to dismantle the Department of Education, moving major parts of the agency to other federal departments, leaving America’s students and educators in the lurch.

What’s happening now isn’t about slashing red tape. If that were the goal, teachers could help them do it, and we invite Donald Trump and Linda McMahon to sit down with educators and hear from the people who actually do this work every day. Teachers know how to make the federal role more effective, efficient and supportive of real learning—if only the administration would listen.

We need our members of Congress to reclaim their authority over education during the upcoming funding battles and stand up and protect public education. Send a message today.

In the meantime, your union, the AFT, will continue to fight back, including in court, because every American, no matter their background, deserves a strong, well-resourced public school that forges a future full of purpose, promise and possibility.

Please write to your lawmakers now.

Last Delegate Assembly of the semester: 12/9, 3-5 PM

Your faculty union’s last business meeting of the semester is coming next week, Tuesday 12/9, 3-5 PM. We’ll be discussing our developing Contract Campaign and the process to nominate representatives to the Bargaining Team. (Find the agenda here.) All members are welcome.
