AFT Endorsements for Local Supervisors & Nancy Pelosi’s Seat: COPE Meeting 1/27 Tues 11:45-1:45 PM

Want to endorse Natalie Gee or Alan Wong for SF Supervisor and weigh in on replacements for Nancy Pelosi in Congress? What is best for our faculty and our college?

As a union member, you have power, and with that power comes responsibility – to engage in local politics and ensure our City has leaders who fight for public education, labor rights, and a better, more just San Francisco. This work is essential for our students and our contract.

This Tuesday 1/27/26 at 11:45am, all AFT members are encouraged to attend a special COPE meeting, where we will hear from two candidates for Supervisor in District 4 (the Sunset): Natalie Gee and former Trustee Alan Wong. We will also hear from a candidate for Supervisor in District 4 (the Marina): Lori Brooke.

We will also have an important discussion of whom to endorse in the primary to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress, a historic race that will have long-term ramifications on our college and City.

All of these races are on the June ballot. This is an important opportunity to hear from the candidates and to let them know what is important to faculty, students, and our communities. All dues-paying AFT members can attend and vote on recommendations to membership. COPE agenda here.

Article Conversation on Work Environment and Academic Freedom 1/28, 2-3:30 on Zoom

What is an Article Conversation? A structured discussion about specific parts of our faculty contract – what we have and what we want. This will be AFT 2121’s seventh Article Conversation this academic year, in this case about Articles 16 and 8 in the contract on the topics of work environment and academic freedom. If you would like to see more specific language about current issues of concern like immigration enforcement on campus or academic freedom for faculty, please come and share them. AFT 2121 members, please join us Wednesday 1/28 on zoom at 2:00-3:30. Register here.

Why is this conversation for dues-paying members of AFT2121? All faculty can join the union at any moment! Unions build their strength and resources from membership, and while all faculty benefit from the union contract and its enforcement, members are the ones who determine what’s in it and bargain for it.

Bargaining Team Updates

At the January 20 meeting of your union Delegate Assembly, ten bargaining team members were elected. In order to make sure the team is as fully representative as possible of faculty across the college, following the election, additional team members may be proposed by the President of AFT 2121 and approved by AFT 2121’s Executive Board. Our Executive Board has also confirmed that the team will be led by Robin Pugh, current AFT 2121 Vice President. Although the team is still being finalized, we are happy to announce that the following members will be serving on the bargaining team:

Educators’ Right to Protect our Students

As the new school year begins, educators and school workers have growing concerns about the escalating anti-immigrant actions being taken by the Trump administration. AFT National has compiled resources to support those who are being targeted by ICE, which you can find at aft.org/immigration. Additionally, CFT is holding a Zoom training on Wednesday, January 28th from 4-5:30 PM, to help us better understand our rights and responsibilities as educators and school employees to protect our community. Register for the meeting at this link.
