Spring 2026: Welcome Back!

President’s Message

Welcome back everyone! As we start a new semester, and continue to navigate the challenges facing our communities, we are also gearing up for contract negotiations. To win a fair contract, we need not only a great bargaining team, but an organized membership that can exert pressure and voice faculty concerns publicly. Nothing is won at the bargaining table alone – it’s the work away from the table that will make a difference! Just as we need to stand together in resistance against the oppressive policies of the current administration, we must come together as faculty and speak with one message to win the contract we deserve.

Bargaining Team: Still time to run!

So far, 10 members have tossed their hats into the ring to serve on the Bargaining Team. You can read their candidate statements HERE.

There is still time to join! Monday, January 19 is the deadline to submit your application, along with the electronic signatures of at least 15 members who support your candidature. See the job description and details here: Bargaining Team Application. Do it sooner rather than later, so that Delegates have a chance to review the candidates’ information before they vote on Tuesday, January 20 at the Delegate Assembly.

Ten members of the Bargaining Team are elected by the Delegate Assembly. The President of AFT 2121, with the approval of the elected Executive Board, can add up to five additional people to fill gaps in the team, in terms of  skills or sectors of the college.

If the Bargaining Team is not for you, you can still think about who you want representing your interests at the table – ask someone you would like to see in that role to run and send them the link. We want a broadly representative bargaining team to win a strong contract, one that a large majority of faculty can support.

Bargaining Survey: Results are in!

In the fall, AFT 2121 conducted a bargaining survey to hear faculty – both members’ and nonmembers’ – priorities. This was paired with one-on-one conversations with as many faculty as possible, with precinct reps and others reaching out to faculty individually in order to understand your needs more thoroughly.

In total, 516 unique bargaining surveys were received (that’s 52% of the bargaining unit). The survey asked faculty to rank their top 5 contractual issues, as well as their top 5 non-contractual issues affecting our work. Our preliminary analysis of the survey results show the following (same top 3 issues for full-time and part-time faculty):

  1. Pay is the top issue. (No surprise here.) More than half of respondents ranked it as their top issue, with 70% ranking it as their 1st or 2nd issue.
  2. Health care and other benefits came in as the second most important contractual issue, with 36% ranking it either #1 or #2.
  3. Job stability and rehire rights was the third issue, with 15% ranking it as either #1 or #2.

Among the noncontractual issues – things we can raise in negotiations to a more limited extent – the top concerns were

  • Enrollment and student retention
  • Maintaining a diverse curriculum and course offerings
  • Keeping CCSF affordable – Free City

AFT 2121 will continue to analyze the survey numbers and written comments to highlight issues of broad concern and to lift up rarer issues that might affect only a subset of workers. These results will help the new Bargaining Team to flag specific articles we need to bargain over. To hear more survey results, members are welcome to attend the Delegate Assembly meeting on January 20, or look for future email updates.

Delegate Assembly: Tuesday, January 20, 3-5 PM

At our first DA meeting of 2026, we will be electing our next bargaining team, as well as discussing the bargaining landscape for our next contract. We’ll also share and discuss the results of our Bargaining Survey. All members are welcome! DA agenda here.

January COPE, Tues, Jan 27, 11:45-1:45 PM – Note earlier time!

COPE is your union Committee on Political Education. Please join our January meeting in welcoming candidates from D2 and D4. Lori Brooke will be visiting to discuss her candidacy for D2. Natalie Gee and Alan Wong will be talking with us about D4. These races are all coming up on the June ballot, as well as the D11 Congressional seat primary. This is an important opportunity to hear from the candidates and to let them know what is important to faculty, students, and our communities.  COPE agenda here.
