AFT 2121’s Response to the District’s Newly Proposed Policies
Last Wednesday, the District brought a series of new administrative policies to the Academic Senate for review, including two that fall squarely within your faculty union’s purview: Remote Work (AP 2.36) and Multifactor Authentication (AP 8.18).
AFT 2121 has presented the District with a Cease and Desist and Demand to Bargain over these topics (see our letter for details). The District has a duty to bargain over both of these changes, and, as such, should have started this process by coming to AFT and other unions representing CCSF’s various employee groups. Unions have a right to bargain over “wages, hours…, and other terms and conditions of employment,” as well as changes that impact those three categories.
At the Academic Senate, the District stated its intent to implement these policies and negotiate after the fact with AFT, a clear Unfair Labor Practice and violation of California labor law. As union employees, faculty have a say over the fundamental conditions of our employment.
We call on the District to reverse course and instead proactively use collective bargaining as a means of resolving controversial matters. Remote work is an example of such a matter. Negotiation, not one-sided imposition of rules, leads to the best outcome.
Stay tuned on AFT’s negotiations on these topics.

Candidate Forms for AFT Executive Board and Officer Election
AFT 2121 is one of the strongest faculty unions in the country–something to be proud of – but it only works because City College faculty step up year after year to fight for the good of our members and our students. How do you see YOUR role in that good fight? Would you like to get more involved?
Now is the time to submit your candidacy for this spring’s leadership election. Per Article XV section 3 of the AFT 2121 Constitution and By-Laws, AFT members can nominate themselves for Officer or Executive Board positions by filling out this form and submitting a candidate statement endorsed with signatures from 5 AFT members in good standing by Friday, March 13 via email to aft@aft2121.org. Nominations will also occur on the floor at AFT’s March 17 General Membership Meeting.
