Endorsement of SF District 8 Supervisor
AFT 2121’s Committee on Political Education (COPE) met March 24 to discuss our endorsement in the November race for San Francisco District 8 (Castro, Noe Valley +) Supervisor. The committee voted to recommend a dual endorsement of Michael Nguyen and Gary McCoy and to support their campaigns with a contribution of $500 each. All AFT 2121 members are encouraged to vote on whether you support these endorsements. You have 10 days to vote. Voting is open to all members in good standing, including department chairs, members of the retiree chapter, and full-time and part-time faculty. Our voice as CCSF faculty has real power in SF politics and we need to use it to get champions of public education into elected office.
Submit Your Arguments For and Against AFT 2121 Constitutional Amendments
AFT elections are this spring! Along with voting for leadership and precinct reps, members are invited to vote on several proposed amendments to the AFT 2121 Constitution and By-Laws. These amendments were voted onto the ballot at the March 17 General Membership Meeting. AFT 2121 members who wish to submit a short argument (100-word max) FOR or AGAINST any one of the amendments may do so by sending a statement to elections@aft2121.org by 5 PM on April 1. The Election Commission will publicize these arguments for consideration before the vote.
Bargaining on Downtown and Remote Work
Faculty, students, and the community have concerns about recent administrative decisions, such as the temporary closure of the Downtown campus and the District’s recent proposal for a remote work policy (on hold now pending negotiations). AFT 2121 is our space to share concerns and take action.
AFT 2121 has confirmed a meeting with the District for impacts bargaining over the decision to close the Downtown Center. While management has a right to make this decision, the impact on faculty wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment must be bargained. Our first session will be Monday, April 13 from 11:30-2:00 PM on Zoom. All AFT members are encouraged to attend.
Your elected AFT bargaining team will be negotiating the college’s proposed remote work policy as part of your contract negotiations. This policy would have a significant impact on faculty working conditions and cannot be decided unilaterally by the employer.
We encourage interested faculty to email aft@aft2121.org to connect with members of our bargaining team working on this issue (or any issue you care about), or reach out to your Precinct Rep to share your concerns.
Sunshine at the BOT: March 26 and Open Bargaining: April 28
Your bargaining team will be presenting the Sunshine Document at the Board of Trustees meeting tomorrow, March 26. Bargaining is due to begin on April 28, from 2:00 to 3:00 (location TBD). We look forward to working with the District to establish competitive and fair compensation for all faculty, improve job stability, protect academic freedom, and continue to work for a stronger college all around. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend open bargaining!
No Kings 3: Saturday, March 28

Once again AFT members will join with allies nationwide to reclaim our democracy. We the people have collective power and are claiming it together. No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings!
The AFT 2121 group will gather at 11:00 AM near Embarcadero Plaza. If you would like to join the group (and get a free CFT TShirt!!), RSVP here for meet up information and location updates during the event.
At 12:00 noon, those gathered will march up Market St. and McAllister St. to Civic Center Plaza for a 2 PM rally at Civic Center Plaza. There will also be a resistance tabling fair at the neighboring Fulton Plaza.
When our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option. We will defend ourselves against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence and work to reinstate democratic values.
Please invite colleagues, friends and family – spread the word so that we can have the biggest, most powerful march yet.
