Show your strength and support for contract demands by signing the Photo Petition
Bargaining for our next contract is starting, and faculty have spoken–you want competitive, full-time salaries and fair part-time salaries with job stability–in other words, the respect you deserve for the excellent education you provide to San Franciscans.

And only visible, broad faculty engagement will strengthen our credibility and bargaining power at the table.
This is where the photo petition comes in. Faculty across the college have posted their photos to show support for higher salaries and job security by visually displaying that we are united behind our demands: every photo-signature increases our chances of a good contract.

Have you posted your photo yet? Which of your colleagues may not be aware of the petition, bargaining, or these messages? Can you reach out to two of them to increase our chances of the salaries, job stability and working conditions you deserve?

AFT Endorsement for Prop D and Discussion around Prop C: COPE Meeting 4/21 Tues 1:30-3:30 PM
Next Tuesday 4/21/26 at 1:30 PM, all AFT members are encouraged to attend a special COPE meeting, where we will discuss the impacts Prop D and C could have on our city, labor allies, students, faculty, and staff.
Prop D would tax companies if the CEO makes 100 times or more than their median employee. The Executive Board has endorsed Prop D, the Overpaid CEO Act, in alignment with the broader labor community. Unions are united behind Prop D because it can replace the city funds we lost to the so-called Big Beautiful Bill — and without it, the Mayor’s deep cuts go into effect, which will impact members and students. Prop D can make San Francisco more resilient and financially stable.
Prop C is the counter proposal supported by big business and the mayor to effectively lower the tax income from businesses to the city by 30-40 million dollars. In other words, this is seen as the poison pill to Prop D.
Both propositions are on the June ballot. The COPE meeting Tuesday is an opportunity to get a deeper understanding of the propositions and what we are fighting for. All members can attend and vote on recommendations for membership. COPE Meeting Agenda here.
Get Out the Vote for Education Champion, Connie Chan!
If you want SF to be represented in Washington by a pioneer of Free City who commits to fully fund academic and career-technical higher education–here and nationally–and who will fight Trump’s attempts to dismantle the Department of Education, then support our endorsed candidate for Congress, Connie Chan. Join the UESF and AFT 2121 mobilization events this Saturday, April 11th – an Educators for Connie Chan day of canvassing at Precita Park (Folsom and Alabama St) at 10 AM. You can also join us Tuesday, April 14th for a phone banking night at 55 Fillmore St (IBEW 6). Below is the flyer and here’s the sign-up link! Let’s get out there and show San Francisco what labor and education support looks like!

May Day
May Day is a day where we celebrate workers. It’s a day that commemorates the historic struggles and gains made by workers and the labor movement. And this year it is even more broadly about human rights – worker rights, immigrant rights, communities and solidarity! Many organizations are working toward a May 1 general strike to send a strong message of resistance to those who threaten our rights.
Labor activists – including Joe Berry, AFT 2121 Retiree Chapter member, in this post – are involved in this action. There are many ways that AFT 2121 members can support the May Day general strike, without actually walking off the job. You can talk to students about it and perhaps give them some leeway if they miss class due to the general strike. You can join your CCSF colleagues at the San Francisco Labor Council action at the Embarcadero Plaza on 5/1 at 4PM. The power of unions is collective power and May Day is a great day to show solidarity!
