For those who love Our City College,
We are calling on our community to stand up for the City College Our Students Deserve. Please join us next Thursday, October 22, at 6 pm on Ocean Campus. See details & RSVP here.
While the elected City College Board of Trustees meet inside, we’ll rally outside to send them a loud-and-clear message: it’s time City College’s Board answers to students, workers, and community, NOT billionaires.
- City College is the largest and most accessible site of job training and higher ed degrees in our city—and, thanks to Free City, it’s free. But right now, the billionaire Super PAC GrowSF is pouring money into local politics, including City College.
- GrowSF-backed candidates now hold a majority on the City College Board. And we know the billionaire agenda for our public schools: cuts, closures, and a lack of accountability.
- Last spring, City College’s new Chancellor shut down an entire campus Downtown without community input. Now that same Chancellor, chosen by the Board’s GrowSF-backed majority, is under investigation for financial misconduct, including allegedly padding her salary with unauthorized stipends. CCSF’s former Finance Chief, Yulian Ligioso, was also allegedly involved in this misconduct.
- But the board is still using Ligioso’s questionable budget numbers to nickel-and-dime CCSF’s classified professionals and faculty. SEIU 1021 & AFT 2121 are both in contract negotiations, and have been working without a contract since the summer. This is unacceptable.
- City College has over $18 million in budget padding this year and record savings of over $70 million, and the CA State Auditor has called out CCSF for not accurately predicting or using funds for education.
- The doom-and-gloom narrative is simply not true: City College has the money to invest in students.
- Bargaining priorities:
1) Fully staff CCSF’s vital community programs, from ESL and nursing to our critically understaffed campus recycling program.
2) Protect CCSF students and workers from threats posed by AI & ICE
3) Invest in CCSF workers so they can afford the City they serve. Make the smart investments needed to maintain a thriving City College.
Let’s send a collective message: City College students deserve the best from our elected leaders. That means accountability, leadership, and listening to students, workers, and community.
