SUMMER
▪ Although there have been exceptions, new rates generally take effect on July 1. June is paid at the previous year’s rates. July is paid on new rates.
▪ For FT faculty, summer assignments are defined as overload.
HOURLY & PAY-BY LOAD
▪ Subbing and PT office hours are paid hourly. Everything else is pay-by-load (PBL).
▪ In PBL, each assignment has a defined load. The idea is that a particular class will be the same load each semester, even if the actual hours vary slightly.
▪ Counter-intuitively, they also use PBL for non-instructional and instructionally-related assignments.

FTE and WORKLOAD
▪ CCSF sometimes describes our load as FTE (a percentage, using 100% as FT) and sometimes as workload (using 15 as FT). These are two systems to express the same thing.
▪ Our pay scales use workload.
▪ “Workload units” are not always the same as the credits that students earn.
