Why isn’t it available for members to view?
Hasn’t it been a year since our members ratified it?
What is our contract status in the meantime?
These are very good questions!
Yes, our members ratified the Tentative Agreement (TA) over a year ago. It is long overdue for a completed contract to be available and posted.
However, the contract is signed and is still valid, even though we don’t have a printed version. You can view the old contract, and the changes and explanation that make up the new one.
So why the delay?
After we signed the contract, there was still some word-smithing and proofreading to do. In some cases, the District and the Union disagreed on the intent and meaning. Some of these disagreements were serious.
One example:
To implement the step increases the District used a method of calculation that was clearly flawed and left many of our members at lower steps than they should have been. It took many hours of “discussions” and much time-consuming research before we finally prevailed and got our members their rightful steps.
Just one more:
In our signed contract, we agreed to increase the load rate for clinical lab classes. But then the District claimed that some of the classes we had considered to be clinical labs were not, in fact, clinical. But after months of work to get that cleared up, Diagnosis Medical Imaging faculty still did not see the increase in their paychecks. Convincing the District of their rightful obligation to follow the agreement took months of more “discussion”.
In addition, the District has serious delayed some of their responses. Over the past year they pushed back several target dates for completion. The latest example is that they said that they were committed to having it completed by Flex Day. However they only sent long overdue outstanding items to us the Friday before Flex. We responded quickly that they still have more to send. So we wait again.
