The 2017 CFT Convention will be held March 31- April 2 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento. Nominations of faculty to be delegates to the convention may be made in person at the Delegate Assembly tomorrow. Emailed nominations may be sent to aft@aft2121.org through January  27, 2017. (Wednesday, 1/25 from 5-6:30pm) Learn how to lower your student debt: AFT and JwJ Student Debt Clinic

Join us for a student debt clinic. There are free programs that may help many student loan borrowers lower their payments or have their debt forgiven. Unfortunately, they are not well known, and can be confusing – opening a space for scammers who charge borrowers to enroll.

Who’s invited: City College workers, students, and community allies
What: Student Debt Clinic
When: Wed., Jan. 25, 5-6:30pm
Where: City College Downtown Campus

Nationally, AFT is working with Jobs with Justice to give Student Debt Clinics and get people the info they need to enroll in income-driven student loan repayment programs and Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Participants are encouraged to shift their perspectives and stopseeing student debt as just a personal issue, but rather a shared national crisis that will require collective action to address.

(Wednesday, 2/1 from 3-6pm) Unite to protect health care

Trump and the Republican Congress have made clear they will try to gut Obamacare and privatize Medicare. Along with the insurance companies, hospital systems and prescription drug corporations, they will try to shift the cost of healthcare directly onto working people.

Join us for a Rally and Public Meeting
Wednesday, 2/1 from 3-6pm
Milton Marks Auditorium (State Building)
455 Golden Gate Ave., Lower Level, SF

Hard fights at the bargaining table to preserve coverage may get harder. But in California we know that when we unite to fight the healthcare industry, we can win.

(Thursday, 2/2 deadline) SERP

The February 2nd SERP deadline is fast approaching. Get more info…

Long-term Care Insurance through CCSF

Human Resources at CCSF has sent information about long-term care to all faculty. AFT was not involved in looking at this long-term care insurance benefit, which is optional and would be at the employee’s expense. As it speaks to a real and growing need, it may be worth considering if you are eligible. AFT members may want to compare it to the long-term care insurance offered through AFT Member Benefits.
