Faculty Flex Day Requirements

Faculty Flex Day Requirements Fall 2018

Flex requirements have changed with our 2018 contract. The full agreement, Article 8.S, is here.

Our academic calendar usually has three flex days per semester. There is usually one Independent Flex and one professional development Flex day just before classes start, and one Independent Flex Day mid-semester.

Professional Development Flex (aka Group Flex) includes workshops and meetings held at CCSF.

NEW FOR 2018: If you have to miss Professional Development Flex Day, you must report an absence the same way you would report for an instructional day, including using sick leave.

Independent Flex can be any activity that your chair deems is legitimate professional development. It can include workshops, classes, or independent activities, held at CCSF or elsewhere. It can be done on the designated day or some other time.

FOR ALL FACULTY

— Report your Flex activities on Web4 by the end of the academic year.

— Extra Professional Flex activities will count towards your Independent Flex requirement.

— Extra Flex cannot carry over to the next academic year.

— Department meeting cannot count for more than 5 hours of Flex per semester.

— Flex day workshop presenters earn double credit for each hour they present.

— All faculty are expected to participate in diversity-minded workshops and activities.

— Flex activities do not earn extra pay and do not count towards column movement.

FOR FACULTY WORKING FULL-TIME

— Five hours per flex day are required

— Faculty on partial-load leave are required to perform flex activities proportional to their hours.

— Faculty working full-time must attend department meetings held on Professional Flex days.

FOR FACULTY WORKING PART-TIME

NEW FOR 2018: Faculty working part-time who have only short-term assignments are encouraged but not required to attend flex days.

Faculty working part-time with semester-long assignment are required to participate in flex days that coincide with the days of their assignments. If you normally work on Thursdays, you must attend Thursday flex days. You are encouraged but not required to participate in other flex days.

— If your schedule includes a Professional Flex day, you must attend scheduled activities held during your normally scheduled hours that day, up to five hours. This includes department meetings.

— If your schedule includes an Independent Flex day, you must participate in Flex activities that total the hours you would normally work that day, up to five hours.

— The maximum required hours per flex day is five, even if your normal work schedule is more.

— Ancillary assignments do not count in your days or hours for this purpose.
