(Sunday, 1/15) Rally to Save Health Care

For years, Republicans have said they want to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act. But right now, all they’re planning to do is strip 20 million Americans of their insurance and force millions more to pay higher premiums. There is no replacement plan in sight.

Republicans are about to Make America Sick Again and roll back the progress we’ve made with the ACA. This Sunday, Democrats across the country are holding rallies to save health care. Nancy Pelosi invites you to join hers.

Our First Stand: Rally to Save Health Care
Sunday, January 15th at 1pm-2pm PST
San Francisco City Hall Steps
RSVP required

Together we can save affordable health care!

(Thursday, January 19) National Day of Action: Join our rally and build a Wall of Solidarity with immigrant students

Join AFT 2121 on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 12:30pm at the Mission Campus (22nd & Bartlett entrance) for the National Day of Action to defend our schools from the Trump/DeVos agenda. We will rally in support of our immigrant students, and form a human “Wall” of solidarity against hateful attacks by billionaire bullies.

(Friday, January 20th at 5pm) Dump Trump Inauguration March

On January 20th, Donald Trump’s inauguration begins a presidential term marked by outright xenophobia, racism, sexism, corporate giveaways and hate-fueled policies. We must reclaim our democracy, and show the nation we’re ready to defend our communities and fight for justice. AFT 2121 will be marching with the labor contingent at Civic Center Plaza at 5pm. Other events are also listed below.

AFT 2121 marches with Jobs with Justice, Labor, and A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition:

Are you on their Watchlist?

You may have heard about the “Professor Watchlist” being kept by Turning Point USA, whose mission—according to its website—is to “identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government.”

Want to dilute the effectiveness of this list? You can sign the open letter to Turning Point USA supporting academic freedom, standing in solidarity with your threatened collegues, and adding your name to the Professor Watchlist.

The Professor Watchlist site is a blacklist. Such lists have been used in the past to harass and intimidate faculty, and have a chilling effect on academic freedom and free speech. Last week, an AFT member in California who was on the watchlist received death threats after Republican operatives circulated a video of her briefly discussing the election in class.

We will not tolerate the policing of our colleagues’ work, thoughts and teaching. We will not accept a situation in which our colleagues are targeted with death threats because of their ideas.
