ATTN new CCSF hires: Step placement deadline, June 9 | Admin fails to meet contract terms

ATTENTION: FACULTY HIRED BY CCSF THIS YEAR, 2016/17

Faculty hired during Fall 2016 or Spring 2017 may be entitled to additional pay based on previous work experience, but you must act now.

New hires were sent a March 10, 2017 letter from Human Resources detailing how to apply for salary step replacement. Because some faculty did not receive the letter, the deadline has been extended until June 9th.

To take advantage of this, you must have your previous employers submit information to HR.

ADMINISTRATION FAILS TO MEET CONTRACT TERMS, YET AGAIN

We finalized our contract in October 2016. In that contract, administration agreed to restore our frozen step from 2009-2010. By the end of the Fall 2016 semester, administration had restored the step for faculty who work full-time. But for faculty who work part-time, it was a more complicated calculation, and it didn’t happen right away.

Administration has been telling us for months that they’re working on it. Now it turns out they will not get it together in time for May payroll. Our members will finish the school year still underpaid. Seven months after signing our contract, administration has not fulfilled their obligations.

We have demanded that administration not wait until the June paycheck to fix this, but instead immediately fix the step in the Banner system so that pay is correct moving forward and cut off-cycle checks to pay the money we are owed for the 2016-2017 school year.

This is only one of several contract provisions that administration failed to address. This pattern must change. If administration is serious about negotiating in good faith, they will live up to their contract and legal obligations. Otherwise they will face continued strife, unfair labor practice charges, and strikes.
