Notes from the negotiations table, 2/13/18

Our primary negotiations focus this week was to get the new District’s new Interim Associate Dean of Finance acquainted with our AFT Interactive Salary Analysis Tool (ISAT).

We ran a variety of scenarios on ISAT that included changing Column and Step movements, creating Longevity Steps, salary increases and projected those costs.

AFT 2121 and the District and have scheduled a series of side budget meetings as each side develops its own proposals.

We reached a Tentative Agreement on Article 14 that deals with full-time Faculty Transfer. The new Tentative Agreement simplifies and clarifies the process for full-time faculty who would Transfer from one department to another.

We also continued to discuss FLEX obligations for faculty. Currently there is much confusion about what obligations there are for faculty because of differing practices across departments and different interpretations of rules in the faculty handbook. We will continue to work with the district to resolve these issues.

Our Open Negotiations sessions continue next Wednesday February 21st in MUB Room 238 from 1:30-5 pm. All faculty are urged to attend.

We negotiated for open bargaining sessions so that our members can observe and understand the negotiations process, so we encourage members to attend, observe, and caucus with the team. Negotiation are every Wednesday in MUB 238. We start with a team caucus at 1:00 pm, convene with Admin’s team around 1:30 or 1:45 and continue until about 5:00 pm. Members may attend part or all of a given session.

Can’t come to Open Negotiations? You can still support our Bargaining Team.

We are working together to keep our Union strong and fight right wing attacks on the working class.

Have you signed a new membership form yet?

Hundreds of faculty who have chosen to re-commit to our Union by signing our new membership form — with its loud, proud commitment to “stick with our union” for a full calendar year —  have helped to keep us in a powerful position for our negotiations. If you have not done so this school year, please help us keep the momentum going and sign a new AFT 2121 membership form.
