Cuts, overpayments, and collections

CCSF’s nasty cuts policy creates another nasty side effect: Increased pay problems. It takes administration so long to process a class cut, that often faculty end up being paid for assignments that don’t exist. Then we have to pay the money back.

If administration thinks they’ve overpaid you, they’ll send three notices. You can pay it back immediately, create a payment plan, dispute their claim, or ask for more information. If you ignore the notices, they’ll send it to collections. They’re threatening to send some accounts to collections right now, and one of them is only $60.02. The college might have to spend more than that just to collect it, but it doesn’t look like they care.

  • If a class is cut after the semester has started, the college must pay you for the days you actually met with students.
  • If you don’t understand the amount they claim, ask questions.
  • If you don’t agree with the amount they claim, dispute the claim
  • If you agree to the re-payment you can negotiate a comfortable payment plan.
  • You can write checks or you can have it deducted directly from your pay.
  • The collection agent is forbidden from charging interest.
  • You can find the full policy on overpayments here.

Please take and share: Class reductions survey

AFT 2121 is working with a broad based coalition of students and community allies including Jobs with Justice and the San Francisco Rising Alliance to gather data about how class cuts affect San Franciscans. Please complete this survey about class reductions and share it with your students!

We plan to present the results of this survey to the Board of Trustees before the end of the semester.
