Today: Fight class cuts & and support tenants | Delegate Assembly | More…

(Tues. 4/9, 3pm) GROW our CCSF – The fight against class cuts continues

Although we have had some victories in getting some of the class cuts reversed, (e.g. DSPS, LGBT, Asian American Studies) most of the drastic reductions to the schedule continue (including American Sign Language classes) and the Chancellor remains committed to reduce the college’s offerings by a third.

AFT 2121 is working with a broad based coalition of students and community allies including Jobs with Justice and the San Francisco Rising Alliance to gather data about how class cuts affect San Franciscans. This will be powerful information to present to the administration and the Board of Trustees.
The next Grow Our CCSF Coalition meeting will be Tuesday, 4/9, from 3-4:30pm at Community Housing Partnership’s San Christina SRO hotel (1000 Market St.). All AFT 2121 members and CCSF students are invited to attend. If you are interested in participating in the Grow Our CCSF Coalition please contact Athena Waid at awaid@aft2121.org
Please also come to the next Delegate Assembly (on Tuesday 4/16 from 3-5pm at the Civic Center Campus, room 10) as we will continue to strategize on further actions.

(Tues. 4/9, all day) Call legislators to protect tenants

Our AFT 2121 Executive Board has endorsed SB 529 or “Tenants Right to Organize” bill. Communities endangered by our housing crisis are targeted for eviction when they organize tenant associations for fair rents & living conditions. SB529 would give CA tenants the right to organize. California renters face an enormous power imbalance. Allowing them to organize tenants’ associations and protect against retaliation by passing SB 529 empowers the victims of the housing crisis to have their voices heard locally and statewide. (Tues. 4/16) AFT 2121 Delegate Assembly

All AFT 2121 members are urged to attend our next Delegate Assembly on Tuesday, 4/16 from 3-5PM at Civic Center Campus room 10 (basement conference room).

Heads up on Important Survey coming your way!

Very soon, the AFT 2121 Diversity Task Force will ask all faculty to participate in a survey questionnaire. This survey will provide a Needs Assessment to determine the gaps in City College of San Francisco’s (CCSF) approach to diversification of faculty, especially among African Americans and Native Americans, who are woefully underrepresented at the college, both as instructional and non-instructional faculty. The results from this survey will contribute to a structured approach by AFT 2121 resulting in a published report that recommends an action plan that outlines explicit policies, infrastructures and systems to support a more diversified faculty and that addresses the lack of representation of African Americans, Latinx Americans and Native Americans.

We look forward to continuing our work and this survey is an important step. Please be on the look out for the link and we thank you in advance for your contributions to this important work.

(Thurs. 4/18) [REV]ision: 50th anniversary of the third world Liberation Front Strike
